The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate
has 20 schools in the Holy Land with a total of 9,000 students and
approximately 830 staff. The schools are run by the Educational Committee
of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem presided by Archimandrite
Innokentios.
The
schools of the Orthodox Church are the oldest Christian schools in
the Holy Land. During the days of the Ottoman Empire the Orthodox Church
was the only organization authorized to build and run schools, thus contributing
to the very preservation of the Arabic language and culture.
The Greek Orthodox Schools throughout the entire Patriarchate
of Jerusalem, are the social contribution of
the Patriarchate to the surrounding societies to Muslims and Christians
alike.
